Mount Ephraim is a family home but is available as a wedding venue for both ceremonies and/or receptions during many weekends of the year. Mount Ephraim does not have in house caterers or florists so the prices quoted are for the hire of the venue only. All the catering, music and florists can be brought in. Clients can bring in their own alcohol.
Wedding Ceremonies
The Main Hall is Licensed and is available for ceremonies with or without a reception. The
hall can accommodate a maximum of approx 100 people. The registrar's fee for performing
the ceremony is not included in the price. The hall is available for ceremonies on both
weekdays and Saturdays. Alternatively, it is possible to have your ceremony in a
pavilion in the garden.
Wedding Receptions
The house is available for receptions on Saturdays and weekdays. The maximum number for
a formal sit down meal is about 100. For larger weddings or by preference receptions can
be held in a marquee in the garden. The marquee is usually situated on the front lawn in
front of the house and this gives wonderful views of the garden and is a truly beautiful
site. A marquee wedding can accommodate between 60 and 450 guests.
We can supply a list of marquee companies, or if you wish, this can be organised by us for you. We do recommend a local marquee company who we find most helpful and convenient to work with.
It is sometimes requested that the house, particularly the Main Hall, is open for photos or a welcoming drink and guests have use of the inside toilet facilities. There is an extra cost for this. As part of the hire fee the gardens can be used for photos and also for the guests enjoyment.
House Receptions
These take place in the central hall and a series of three rooms situated around
the hall. All rooms are linked by double opening doors but those in room 1 cannot see
those in room 3.
The house is suitable for approximately 100 for formal sit down meals and 150 to a maximum of 180 for a finger or fork buffet. An evening function can take place with a disco or band and a bar in the central hall with dancing. Other guests can sit and talk in the other reception rooms without being drowned by the music.
For all functions there is a strict midnight curfew, this is most important for marquee weddings and we do ask that the music be turned down from 11pm. The outside music does travel and we have begun to get complaints from neighbours. We do have a list of recommended caterers who have worked at Mount Ephraim. Alternatively if you have a caterer who you would like to cater for you this is acceptable. We would need to meet the caterer and show him/her the facilities. The kitchen facilities for the house are not those of a hotel and menus need to be selected carefully. A hot 3 course meal for 100 would be extremely difficult. Cold starters and cold desserts with a hot main course are more realistic. For weddings in marquees the great bulk of catering is done from a service tent on the side of the main marquee.
There is an attractive bedroom available in the house for the bride and groom to change in and use with their family. The central staircase makes a wonderful entrance for the bride during the ceremony or for a grand farewell when the wedding is over.
