Escape to the countryside
Can I bring my dog?
Yes. Well-behaved dogs are allowed on leads and there is a water tap available near to the toilets and tea room for drinking water for dogs.
Is there car parking on-site?
Yes. There is plenty of free car parking available in our large field. Please park considerately and do not block in other cars.
Can I book in advance?
No. We do not pre-sell garden tickets online except for special event days and season tickets. Please see events page for dates of our events.
How do I purchase a ticket?
Our ticket box will be open between 11 am and 3 pm on opening days. There is no entry after 3 pm as the gardens closed at 4 pm. Contactless payment is preferred but we can also accept cash. We don't sell day tickets online except for our special events - see events page for details.
Can I bring a picnic?
Yes. Please bring your own picnics and picnic rugs. Please take home all of your picnic waste. There is no official picnic area on-site so please picnic where you feel appropriate and avoid narrow paths.
Are the gardens suitable for disabled visitors?
Due to the nature of our gardens being on a large natural slope our gardens are only partially accessible for wheelchair users and those with lesser mobility and our entry ticket is heavily discounted to reflect this. There are reserved disabled parking spaces near the ticket box and there is a disabled toilet and disabled access into the Tea Room. Our full access statement can be viewed online here.
Are you family-friendly?
Yes, we welcome families and have a very small natural play area for children in the maze and a free Animal Trail for children to complete whilst wandering around the gardens. There are areas of open water throughout the gardens so children should be supervised at all times.
Can we just come into the Tea Room?
Our Tea Room is solely for the use of garden visitors. Visitors wishing to visit the Tea Room regularly should consider purchasing a season ticket allowing unlimited access during normal garden opening days, excluding third party organised events, and 10% off food and drink in the Tea Room,.
How busy do the gardens get?
We expect up to 100 visitors on a weekday and up to 150 on a weekend. The gardens can be much busier on special event days with around 500 people on-site at any one time.
Do you provide maps?
Yes. All visitors will be given a free map on arrival with a suggested route around the gardens. We have also produced an accessible paths map for visitors with restricted mobility. There is also an enlarged map to the right of the ticket box for those preferring a paperless visit.
Are there toilets on-site?
Yes. There are separate ladies and gents toilets and one disabled toilet, and they are cleaned daily.
Is the house open?
The house is not open for garden visitors and only accessible to those attending private events or staying in our accommodation.
